Former Marine and Marine Corps veteran Jeff Bierut is running for California’s 26th congressional district, and he’s making a pitch to voters in his home county of San Bernardino, California.
The 32-year-old Bieruts, who was wounded in combat in Iraq, has spent much of his life in the country, working in California, and now lives in San Bernardino with his wife and children.
He said in an interview with Breitbart News, “I’m not going to pretend that I’ve never done anything in my life that could be construed as a crime.”
He went on to say, “If you’ve got any sort of criminal history, you can be convicted and go to jail.
I don’t think anyone should be in jail for doing their job.”
Bieruts campaign says that he supports the President because of his record of protecting our troops and our country.
Bieruta told Breitbart News that he is “not a racist, nor am I a sexist.
But when you’re the leader of the free world, you need to be able to be held accountable for the things that you do.”
In a statement to Breitbart News in November, Bieruto said he supports Trump because he believes “we can unite the country and defeat terrorism, as President Trump has promised to do.”
He continued, “We can build a border wall, we can secure our nation, and we can build jobs for our people.
That’s what I support, and I think we should be doing that.”
Biersut is the first Muslim candidate for Congress in the state of California, according to a recent Los Angeles Times/USC/Los Angeles Times poll.
He was also the first Latino candidate in the California legislature, and was the first Democrat elected to the House of Representatives in California’s history.
He was also endorsed by the Southern Poverty Law Center, which has said that he has made “a personal and professional commitment to fighting for social justice and racial equality.”
